What are All on Four Dental Implants?

The All on Four technique is a revolutionary treatment based on placing four dental implants: two straight implants in the front and two angled implants in the back. This structure supports a full arch of teeth, making it an excellent option for patients who have lost all their upper or lower teeth or are about to lose most of them.

This condition, often caused by poor oral hygiene, advanced cavities, periodontal disease (excessive tooth mobility), or uncontrolled systemic diseases, leads to significant problems with speaking, chewing, and aesthetics, which negatively impact the patient’s quality of life. With this technique, you can regain a full set of teeth supported by four implants—without the need for a palate in the prosthesis.

Can Four Implants Support a Full Arch?

Yes, the All on Four dental implant technique is designed to withstand the forces of chewing and prevent excessive strain on the prosthesis. This allows patients to enjoy a durable, functional solution.

How Long Do All on Four Implants Last?

Studies show that the All on Four dental implant technique has a success rate of 98.2%. With proper care, dental implants and prosthetics can last over 10 years, sometimes exceeding 20 years. While the implants themselves fuse with the bone and have a low chance of failure, the prosthetic may need replacement or repair after a decade due to natural wear. Regular dental check-ups and maintenance every six months will help extend the lifespan of both the implants and the prosthetic.

Who is a Candidate for All on Four Dental Implants?

Patients who meet the following criteria are ideal candidates for All on Four implants:

  • Complete tooth loss in the upper or lower jaw
  • Healthy or well-controlled systemic conditions (e.g., diabetes, hypertension)
  • Patients with few remaining teeth, making prosthetic rehabilitation difficult
  • Those suffering from periodontal disease with excessive tooth mobility
  • Patients with uncomfortable full dentures

Contraindications for the All on Four Technique

This technique is not recommended for patients who:

  • Have undergone head and neck radiotherapy within the past 12 months
  • Have experienced cardiac events in the last six months
  • Have untreated periodontal disease
  • Have uncontrolled diabetes or hypertension

What Are the Benefits of All on Four Dental Implants?

A full set of teeth with only four implants

Immediate placement of a fixed prosthesis on the same day, allowing you to eat and smile right away

No need for one implant per missing tooth, saving both time and money

Does the All on Four Procedure Hurt?

No, the procedure is performed under local anesthesia and conscious sedation. Most of our patients report minimal discomfort during recovery, and many can return to their normal activities within a few days.

How is the All on Four Technique Planned?

The process begins with a general evaluation to determine if you’re a candidate for all on 4 dental implants. We’ll take a detailed medical history, answer your questions, and understand your functional and aesthetic expectations for your future prosthesis.

We typically request panoramic X-rays and a 3D CT scan to assess bone quality and location of key anatomical structures. If necessary, laboratory tests will be requested to ensure you are in optimal health for the procedure.

Thanks to our state-of-the-art technology, we digitally plan the procedure and create surgical guides for precise placement of the All on Four implants. This digital planning also helps us design the immediate fixed prosthesis that will be placed during surgery.

What is the All on Four Procedure Like?

On the day of the procedure, you’ll arrive early for preoperative checks, including vital signs. We recommend conscious sedation using nitrous oxide combined with oxygen to reduce anxiety and maintain stable vital signs, making the procedure more comfortable.

Using the pre-planned surgical guide, the four dental implants will be placed. Two implants are inserted in the front of the jaw, while the remaining two are placed at a 30-degree angle in the premolar or molar region. After the implants are in place, an immediate fixed prosthesis is attached, restoring function and aesthetics right away.

Once the implants have integrated with the bone (in about 3-5 months), the immediate prosthesis will be replaced with a more permanent, high-quality prosthesis for enhanced aesthetics and durability.
